History is being made: Second Muslim elected to Congress
An article on Reuters’ US News page states that an Indiana Muslim Congressman was voted in to the United States House of Representatives by Indiana Voters. He was voted in to serve the rest of the term of the late Democrat Rep. Julia Carson, his grandmother. An interesting note is that Representative Andre Carson’s faith did not seem to be a problem among Iowa voters. This seems to reveal that Muslims are becoming m ore accepted and active in their local governments. Andre is the second in a possibly growing list of Muslim members of Congress, the first being Senator Keith Ellison of Minnesota. I hope all succecess to the Congressman, who is also Member of the Indianapolis City-County Council
from Indianapolis’s 15th district.
